Coming in May: Our friends at the Liljestrand Foundation and the International Writing Program at University of Iowa are presenting a climate change preview summit at the East-West Center called The Margins of the Sea preview: Peace. Global Understanding. Climate Change.
Margins of the Sea
The Margins of the Sea preview, introduces an annual series of international summits that value peace, greater global awareness and environmental stewardship. Celebrated speakers will help create connections to elevate thinking and suggest alternative solutions to climate change by engaging people through the arts, humanities, film and literature.
There is a best selling author, Simon Winchester (The Professor and the Madman, Pacific, Krakatoa) on May 14 and then on May 15 we have Maxine Burkett (professor at UH School of Law), James Redford (documentary filmmaker) and Maya Soetoro-Ng (consultant to Obama Foundation and co founder of the Institute for Climate and Peace. Chip Fletcher, Dean and professor at UH’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, will moderate.
