Pacific Play Family Fun Day in Sydney

Hōkūleʻa, the iconic canoe of the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) and the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage, will celebrate her landmark 40th anniversary with a series of celebratory events and festivities throughout 2015, including a visit to the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Pacific Play Family Fun Day – join us for a special day inspired by the arrival of the iconic Polynesian canoe Hokulea and Australian and Pacific Indigenous cultures.
SUNDAY 17 MAY, 9AM – 4PM (AEST)
Enjoy Hawaiian dance and music performances, face painting, creative demonstrations, dress ups, art making and more:
9am – 12pm | Model canoe building demonstrations with Hawaiian and Aboriginal students |
9.30am – 4.30pm | Film Screenings of “Horrible Histories – Highly Hawaiian” and “Malama Honua: ‘Ohana Hokulea” |
11am & 1pm | Weaving workshops with Aboriginal artist and educator Nadeena Dixon |
11am – 12pm& 2 – 3pm | Cabinet of Curiosities display about Pacific Navigators |
11am – 3pm | Kids on Deck activities including make model vakas (canoes), crafting Hawaiian leis, make kapa rubbings and putting on temporary tattoos |
11am-3.30pm | Face-painting |
11.30am & 12.30pm | Halau Mohala ‘Ilima Hawaiian dance, music and cultural performances |
2pm | Hawaiian Dance workshop |
