Born in Auckland, Aotearoa, Rex grew up in Samoa and lives in American Samoa where he worked for the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. Rex first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2014 and he hopes that, through the Worldwide Voyage, more people will become familiar with PVS as he has and the younger generation will enjoy sailing using ancient navigation techniques. When at sea, Rex appreciates the feeling of being very small amidst something very big but he also misses his young son back home.
