Maui Tauotaha from Kaimukī, Oʻahu, is the Senior Editor at ʻŌiwi TV and contributes to photography and communications aboard the canoe. He sails in the wake of his grandfather, Puaniho, who was a master canoe carver from Tahiti and Hōkūleʻa crewmember. Hōkūleʻa is the reason his parents met and the reason he was born and he is honored to contribute to the mission of Hōkūleʻa. Maui hopes that the voyages of Hōkūleʻa will continue to spread the message of Mālama Honua (caring for Island Earth) widely because we have lived for too long taking for granted the places and resources that we depend on.
