Senior Editor at ʻŌiwi TV, Maui contributes to photography and communications aboard the canoe. He sails in the wake of his grandfather, Puaniho, who was a master canoe carver from Tahiti and a Hōkūleʻa crewmember. Hōkūleʻa is the reason his parents met and the reason he was born and he is honored to contribute to the mission of Hōkūleʻa. Maui hopes that the Worldwide Voyage spreads the message of Mālama Honua widely because we have lived for too long taking for granted the places and resources that we depend on. When out at sea, Maui craves playing with his niece and nephew at the beach and the zoo and anywhere that makes them happy.
