Lurline is a descendant of Hawaiian sea captains and fisherman, a writer, and a TV producer with a focus on the ocean. She first stepped foot on Hōkūleʻa in Tautira, Tahiti when she was filming a documentary about her voyage to Rapa Nui. She sees Hōkūleʻa as the greatest success that Native Hawaiians have made in the last century in reclaiming culture. Through the Worldwide Voyage, she hopes that Hōkūleʻa can continue to inspire pride in the Native Hawaiian community, and awareness of the value of cultural traditions.
