Rescue Swimmer, Electrician, Ship's Carpenter, Escort Captain
Keala is an instructor at Honolulu Community College Small Vessel Fabrication and Repair Program at the Marine Education Training Center, where he also spends a lot of time working in the shop on parts of Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia as well as training new crewmembers. Keala see Hōkūleʻa as a rebirth of Hawaiian pride and hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, Hōkūleʻa can touch as many young people with the values of PVS and the Hawaiian spirit of aloha.
While at sea, Keala misses surfing and a soft bed but he loves the simple life of sailing.
