WORLDWIDE VOYAGE LEGS SAILED:
Leg 25: Virginia to Florida, Leg 12: Brisbane to Darwin, Leg 3: Tahiti to Sāmoa
Keala was working as a lifeguard on Kaua'i when he was first invited to sail on Hōkūleʻa. He couldn't believe his fortune to be aboard with many of the voyagers he had read about in school and he has been dedicated to sailing ever since. For Keala, Hōkūleʻa carries the principles of Hawaiian ancestors pointing to a better tomorrow.
At sea, Keala appreciates the fleeting but strong relationships and camaraderie that are built on the canoe. While not sailing, Keala is an artist creating beautiful drawings of Polynesian canoes in addition to working for Hawaiian Airlines.
