Crew Profile: Kaipo Kiaha

PVS Member Since
HOMETOWN:
Nā Wai ʻEhā, Maui
PRIMARY DUTY:
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kaipo is part of the ʻŌiwi TV team handling communications onboard Hōkūleʻa. He sees Hōkūleʻa as a vessel that does not just carry her crewmembers but also carries mana and a message, and sailing on Hōkūleʻa is thousands of years of ancestral knowledge made tangible. Kaipo hopes that the Worldwide Voyage can spark a new renaissance, much like the Hawaiian Renaissance inspired by Hōkūleʻa's maiden voyage, that inspires us to live sustainably.
As a photographer, Kaipo misses steady ground to take unshaken shots while sailing. Back on land, he misses the humbling, exhilarating feeling of isolation in the vast expanse of blue.
