Kaina first got involved with PVS in 2001 while participating in a high school program centered around marine science. After high school he continued sailing and volunteering with PVS in dry dock. For Kaina, Hōkūleʻa means faith in kupuna, hope in the future, and love which we hold on the wa'a (canoe) and spread in ports. Kaina hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, Hōkūleʻa can help others learn about taking care of this Island Earth as our ancestors did.
