CREWMEMBER HIGHLIGHT: Jenna Ishii
Crew Profile: Jenna Ishii

PVS Member Since 2008
HOMETOWN:
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi
PRIMARY DUTY:
Apprentice Navigator
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hōkūleʻa is a place where everything makes sense, where everyone gets along, and where anything is possible. She has been touched by thousands of people from Hawaiʻi and all over the world who all hold similar values of aloha, kindness, caring and compassion.
I envision the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage to bring together the people of Hawaiʻi to have one voice to share with the world. I would like for every child in Hawaiʻi to know that Hōkūleʻa is sailing for their future. I envision the Worldwide Voyage to weave together stories of hope from community to community of people all around the Pacific and the world who are doing something to care for their land, oceans and people. This voyage is about supporting the people, organizations and communities who are changing the sail plan for our Earth.
I feel so fortunate to be able to learn from our Pwo navigators. They are my heroes and mentors and they have shown me that success in any voyage in life is in the preparation. For the past several years, I have tried to get in the ocean every day and learn about the heavens at night. While preparing for any upcoming voyage, we watch for signs of changing weather, studying the stars at night, learning about the planets, sun and moon positions, and research the routes of the voyage.
