Leg 22: Maine to Nova Scotia to New York
On Leg 22, Hōkūleʻa will sail north from Maine to spend a week in Canada in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The canoe will sail across the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, which is known for having the largest tidal range on the globe. The canoe will then retrace her steps south down the New England coast to New York City. On this leg, Hōkūleʻa will spend time engaging with those working to mālama honua and will report back on the stories of hope the crew finds.
- As Hōkūleʻa and her crew sailed through the waters off Massachusetts on their way up and down the New England coastline, they touched waters home to New England’s only National Marine Sanctuary and famed home of the North Atlantic Humpback Whale, Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
