Hōkūleʻa Update | July 29, 2015

Aloha everyone, this is Jenna Ishii reporting from Hōkūleʻa. As you can see we we are just off an island called Lombok.  It took us a while last night, to site this island, the navigation got a little tough because the waves were pretty big and the wind was really consistent we were flying at about eight knots last night and so we actually changed our course a little bit if you take a look at the map, to go a little bit more north which was a better course for Hōkūleʻa and for our escort boat Gershon, and so what we found out is early in the morning we saw a little white light and sometimes you don’t know what those lights are they could be ships, they could be light houses, but it looked like maybe a road or something and so as we got closer, as the dawn came up, we got to see an island in the light of day and we got to see a really big volcanic mountain and so that is the island of Lombok and we are making our way to Bali tomorrow morning to clear into customs and then we’ll prepare for the arrival ceremony on Saturday August 1st. We’re just really looking forward to spending time in Bali, Indonesia, getting to know the people the community here, our crew worked so hard last night steering really straight, everyone is in good spirits and good health and we just want to thank you all for supporting the worldwide voyage, Hōkūleʻa and everyone that’s doing their part to mālama honua. Keep following us on Hokulea.com
