Hōkūleʻa Update | July 27, 2015

Aloha, this is Jenna Ishii reporting from Hōkūleʻa in the middle of the Indian Ocean. We just left Ashmore reef yesterday and we had a full day on the ocean, as you can see, the winds are pretty light and so our plan right now as we head to Bali, we’re under tow to make sure that we make it by our August 1st arrival and hoping that the winds are going to start picking up this afternoon, and we can start sailing again. But we saw some really interesting things yesterday, we saw a big sea snake, we saw some marine debris, some big jellyfish, we saw false killer whales and we also saw some long line fishing buoys. A ton of boat traffic as we started to enter the shipping lanes, so it’s really exciting and every day is brand new, we’ve never been on this ocean before. We’re really looking forward to the next couple days of getting some wind and sailing together, our crew is really coming together and doing well and everyone’s healthy and we’re thinking of all of you back home, following the voyage and sending us your good thoughts. Keep following us at and we’ll check in soon, aloha.

Please help keep us sailing for future generations. All contributions make a difference for our voyage. Mahalo nui loa!
