Hōkūleʻa Update | July 23, 2015

Aloha everybody! This is Jenna Ishii, Hōkūleʻa crewmember, reporting from the Timor Sea. Just wanted to let everyone know that the crews of Hōkūleʻa and our escort vessel Gershon are doing really well. You can see right now that we are under tow with our escort vessel Gershon taking really good care of us. We are looking forward to coming up to some pretty amazing places, starting tomorrow, called Ashmore Reef and some underwater oil wells. The crew is going to be exploring some of those places and looking at some of the most pristine reefs, its a marine protected area.

Then we will make our way to Bali. The reason we have picked up tow is because we promised the Bali community that we would be there for a big arrival ceremony on August 1 and they have been putting a lot of time and effort making this very first interaction between Hawaiʻi and Bali with Hōkūleʻa happen and so we just want to be respectful of that. Once the winds come back we will start sailing again. We have seen some beautiful sunsets and every night has been crystal clear with beautiful stars. We have even seen some sea snakes coming by, turtles, dolphins every day. It has been an amazing three days and we are looking forward to the next couple of days. We will keep reporting back to you and keep following us on Aloha!

Please help keep us sailing for future generations. All contributions make a difference for our voyage. Mahalo nui loa!
