YMCA Healthy Kids Day
April 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
WHAT: The Polynesian Voyaging Society is pleased to be a part of this year’s YMCA of Honolulu Healthy Kids Day, 9am – 2pm at the Bishop Museum. The Polynesian Voyaging Society will share about traditional exploration on a waʻa and provide updates of the historic 4-year Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage. Hōkūleʻa has been crossing oceans to engage with communities and learn about how they take care of our planet.
Learn from crewmembers the Hawaiian star compass, practice sailing knots, build a canoe model and find out more fun ways you can mālama honua (take care of our Island Earth) by hearing about the Promise to PaeʻĀina work, the environmental mission of the Worldwide Voyage. Come visit us in the “Letʻs Move Outside” Pavilion in A-Frame Hale Waʻa right next to Atheron Hālau. (see map attached).
Fun family-friendly activities and educational experiences include kalo planting, poi-pounding, obstacle course and MORE! Visit all the booths, collect 6 stamps to redeem for a prize. In addition to so many awesome organizations joining us this day, our partners the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance will be launching Conservation Connections, and Kokua Hawaiʻi Foundation will be providing FREE water stations throughout the museum – so bring your reusable water bottles!!!
