Hōkūleʻa Canoe Family Day
June 13, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage as we explore the Great Barrier Reef at Reef HQ. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is one of the richest, most complex and diverse ecosystems in the world.
A 19-metre traditional Polynesian canoe will dock in Townsville at Reef HQ Aquarium as part of its four year journey around the globe to promote Indigenous knowledge, ocean restoration and global sustainability.
Hōkūleʻa will be open to the public for viewing and activities on Saturday 13 June from 9:00am to 12:00pm behind Reef HQ Aquarium.
During the Townsville stopover, the Hōkūleʻa crew will conduct an underwater class with Australian and Hawaiian students through Reef HQ Aquarium’s virtual underwater classroom connection and will visit a Reef Guardian school.
Reef HQ Aquarium is the National Reef Education Centre for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, and the amazing host of the Underwater Virtual Field Trip. Join us on Hokulea.com to explore the Great Barrier Reef live, and listen in as Hōkūleʻa crewmembers and Reef HQ scientists bring students from Hawaiʻi and Aotearoa on a live tour of the Great Barrier Reef.
Event details will be available on the Hōkūleʻa Crew Facebook page.
