Canoe to Classroom – Lesson Plan Jam: Wa’a Math
February 9, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
Join us at the Marine Education & Training Center (10 Sand Island Parkway) for our first 2017 Canoe to Classroom (C2C) workshop! At every workshop, we will have guest educators talk about how they integrate or are inspired by navigation, voyaging, and mālama honua in their teaching. Following their short interactive presentations, all participants (no matter your content area, grade level, or type of learning organization) will “jam” together to brainstorm lesson plan ideas, opportunities to collaborate, and more!
We will determine the workshopping schedule and locations through June 2017 collectively when we meet on February 9th. Please come to provide your input on what days work best for you, your colleagues, and your students – we want to create a schedule that works best for all! You are encouraged to think about whether you want to host a workshop or two, who you might involve from your school or team, and when would be best for you to host a workshop.
Canoe to Classroom (C2C) engages teachers to collaborate, create, and pilot activities and lessons based on the themes and values of Polynesian voyaging and wayfinding, Hawaiian culture, and efforts to mālama honua.
The Wa’a Math Lesson Plan Jam from 4- 6 pm will be followed by an opportunity to attend Level 1 Crew Training from 6-8 pm.
