Timi Gilliom is the captain of Mo‘okahi O Pi‘ilani, Maui’s voyaging canoe. Timi has dedicated the better part of the last 20 years to maintaining, sailing and training others on Mo‘okahi O Pi‘ilani – from which he only takes a break to sail on Hōkūleʻa. Timi first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 1996. He sees Hōkūleʻa as both a door to the past and a window to the future. "If it wasn't for Hōkūleʻa, I would look at life differently," said Timi.
By sailing aboard Hōkūleʻa, Timi hopes to be creating a better tomorrow. While on land, he most craves the simplicity of being aboard Hōkūleʻa with his crew.
