Ryan Hanohano, originally from Heʻeia, the east side of Oahu, first sailed aboard Hōkūleʻa in the summer of 2013. To Ryan, Hōkūleʻa represents a symbol of hope and continuity for the Hawaiian culture.
While on this leg, Ryan hopes that the message of Mālama Honua is received by everyoneʻs actions and not words. Ryan wants to lead by example by rendering service to those in true need and be able to show people we care by what we do and not say.
