Peia is an accomplished voyager and navigator from Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. After many years of practicing navigation, Peia was inducted into Pwo, the degree of the Weriyeng School of Navigation of Micronesia, by Hawaiian master navigators in 2011. One of only two master navigators in the Cook Islands, Peia was inspired by Hōkūleʻa to bring the knowledge of navigating and voyaging back to the Cook Island to teach the youth. Peia serves as Captain and Navigator aboard the Cook Island vaka (voyaging canoe) Marumaru Atua and Pwo Celestial Navigator and Project Manager Vaka Voyaging at the Pacific Voyaging Foundation.
