Kaiwi began training with the Polynesian Voyaging Society in 2011. He served as an Education Assistant at PVS, in addition to being an Educational Tour Guide at Kualoa Ranch. Kaiwi studied finance and Hawaiian language at the University of Hawaiʻi.
