Crew Profile: Darienne Dey

PVS Member Since 2012

HOMETOWN: Honolulu, Hawaii
PRIMARY DUTY: Watch Captain
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORLDWIDE VOYAGE LEGS SAILED:
Darienne Dey from Honolulu, Oʻahu first started sailing on Hōkūleʻa in March 2012 and will soon set sail on Hōkūleʻa’s latest voyage to the Doldrums in May 2021.

To Darienne, Hōkūleʻa makes her feel small but not insignificant by showing her that what she gets to do now is because of the many people who came before her and the many more who have come, will come, and need to come after in order for voyaging to continue. Hōkūle‘a teaches that we need each other to fulfill our shared kuleana of continuing this mo‘okū‘auhau ‘ike ho‘okele.

Darienne would like to see voyaging bring out the best in all of us (individually and collectively), so that we can put our best mana and intentions into everything else we do and into our interactions with others, whether on land or at sea.

While Darienne is at sea she will miss spending time with her pet rabbits, friends and ʻohana. When on land, she will miss getting rocked to sleep by the ocean.
