WORLDWIDE VOYAGE LEGS SAILED:
Archie Kalepa is an accomplished waterman who has spent much of his life on the water surfing, paddling, sailing and keeping others safe. As a lifeguard captain, he helped develop new water rescue techniques, for which he earned the Eddie Aikau Waterman Award. He first started crew training with PVS in 1992 and has sailed to Tahiti on both Hōkūleʻa and Hawai‘iloa. When aboard Hōkūleʻa, Archie looks forward to learning from and reading the ocean currents and water and sharing the message of Mālama Honua in the ports they visit. Originally from Lahaina, Maui, Archie’s primary responsibilities while voyaging include captain, safety officer and rescue swimmer.

He participated in several legs of the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage including Rapa Nui to the Galapagos Islands; Virginia to New York City; South Africa; and Tahiti to Sāmoa. He also participated in Hikianalia’s voyage to California in 2018.

When aboard Hōkūleʻa, Archie looks forward to learning from and reading the ocean currents and water and sharing the message of Mālama Honua in the ports they visit.
